I found a Tucker

Postby lahoughton » Fri Nov 30, 2001 3:31 am

I recently found a Tucker in my home town. It was in horrible shape and had many modifications. I looked inside (it was sitting in a movie theater parking lot) and the rear seat was missing. I could see the engine through where the back seat should have been. The car had been spray painted by hand with cans of black and silver paint. I too saw the movie several years ago and have been facinated by the car. I might be interested in trying to purchase this car from the gentleman who owns it. It will take a LOT of work and money to attempt to get this car presentable. Can anyone help me answer a few questions?

1. Considering the condition of the car what would be a fair price for the car? (a lot of the original parts are missing)

2. What resources are available to obtain parts, vehicle specifications, etc?

3. Is there someone who can fabricate body parts and interior (original seats seem to be missing) and what becomes of the value of the car if new parts are fabricated for it? I might not want to dump a ton of money into it if I can never recoup. I may do it just for the pleasure of owning a small piece of this car.

4. Bottom line: How many of you would be interested in this car if you were in my shoes?
Any help or advice would be great. You can contact me at lahoughton@starband.net

False Alarm

Postby lahoughton » Mon Dec 03, 2001 6:56 pm

The car turns out to be a 1949 Hudson Hawk. I saw the car again and stopped the guy to talk to him. What threw me off was the fact that this car had the center headlight and rear mounted engine. Apparently this guy is making some modifications to make this car look like a Tucker. Not being familiar with the details of the styling of the Tucker there was a lot that I didn't see. The rear engine is actually the FRONT END and engine of an 84 Taurus. He took the whole front end from the Taurus and replaced the rear end of the Hudson. (long story) Also it SAID Tucker all over the car plus he had a scale model of the Tucker in the rear window. He wanted everyone to THINK he had a Tucker. I'm sure it wouldn't have fooled real Tucker enthusiasts....but even up close to a novice like me it looked like a Tucker.

Found A Tucker?

Postby plancor 792 » Fri Dec 07, 2001 4:11 am

Hi, interesting that you thought you had located a Tucker. We, in The Tucker Automobile Club of America have been tracking all kinds of reports for years and the vehicle usually ends up being a Studebaker, a Ford or as in your case something else. You don't by chance live in the Wisconsin area do you? We are constantly hearing that there is a Tucker convertible in that area but to date no one has actually seen it. That is other than the so called owner who claims he has it.Would appreciate haring from you. You can leave a message at this website or contact me by email. I am TuckerMch@aol.com.
